Sonia Drewniak (nee Kasian) beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and aunt, peacefully passed away at the Holy Family Home in Winnipeg, Manitoba on December 16th, 2022 at the age on 98.
Sonia was born in Rosa, Manitoba on August 20th, 1924 to her parents Anastasia and Michael, where she and her many siblings spent their younger years working on the family farm. On July 15th, 1944, Sonia married the love of her life, Tony (Anton) Drewniak and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. They were soon blessed with 4 wonderful children, Shirley, Gail, Anthony, and Robert.
Sonia was a founding member of St. Joseph's Ukrainian Catholic Church, and dedicated much of her time to the choir and the Ladies League. She used her considerable skills in the kitchen to cook for the Fathers at both St. Joseph's and St. Nicholas Ukrainian Church. She was a devoted member of the church and community and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She loved singing, crocheting, cooking, and mushroom picking. Her kindness, generosity sense of humour and beautiful laugh touched everyone that met her. Sonia found positivity everywhere, even in the face of immeasurable loss, and she spent her life taking care of others and making the people around her happy.
Those left of us on earth to celebrate her life: Her sister Stella, daughter Gail (Rocky), grandchildren, Terence, (Angelina), Colin (Julie), Rhonda (Dave), Stephanie (Derek), Cobra-Lynne (Aaron), and her great grandchildren, Sydney, Bridgette, Sonia, and Mya. As well as various nieces nephews, and everyone who ever had the pleasure of meeting her.
She is reunited in Heaven with her beloved husband Tony, her daughter Shirley, sons Anthony and Robert, sisters Olga, Mary, Lena, Anne, Kay, Pauline, and Doris, brothers Joe, Peter, John, William, Andrew, and Walter, niece Sandra and her parents Anastasia and Michael.
A heartfelt thank you to Father Bohdan Lukie, both a personal family friend and former pastor at St. Joseph's Church, and currently the resident Chaplain at Holy Family, for being a wonderful friend to Sonia and a comfort to our family through sad times. A special thank you to Connie and Sandra for the unwavering support, care and love they gave to Sonia and our family, and thank you to the staff at Holy Family Home for the exceptional dedication and compassion they've shown to Sonia for the last 9 years.
