It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Victoire (Vicky) Stefkovic (née Manaigre) on June 2, 2020 at Health Sciences Centre.
Vicky was the embodiment of generosity and kindness. She leaves behind John, her husband of 60 years; beloved daughters Gladys (Maynard), Grace (Douglas), and Phyllis (Garth); grandchildren Danielle, Bradley, Amanda, and Kelly; and three great-grandchildren Quintin, Wrenn, and Brandi. Vicky’s grandchildren and great grandchildren were a great source of joy to her and she delighted in spending time with them. She also leaves behind 2 brothers and 2 sisters and many nieces and nephews. Vicky was predeceased by her son-in-law Maynard, brothers Armand, Arthur, baby Emile, Odias, Gerald, Edmond; and sisters Hermine and Anita.
Vicky was married at 16 years old to John and began farming alongside his parents to develop prize winning registered Holsteins. Their cattle would go on to win Grand Champion and many other awards of excellence. They knew many of their cows by name and pedigree and were very proud of their standing in the shows. Together, Vicky and John overcame adversity and rebuilt their farm after the destruction of most of their prized herd in 1999 due to a barn fire.
In her later years, Vicky relished in fishing including catching several master angler fish and participating in several local wildlife clubs. She delighted in going to the cottage which she considered her “happy place”. Vicky also enjoyed making puzzles and knitting—making over 170 pairs of socks for family and friends.
A special thank you to Dr. Wong, Dr. Beshara, and the staff at Cancer Care in St. Boniface Hospital and Health Sciences Centre for their care. We would also like to thank her many friends for their help and kindness during her illness.
Due to the current restrictions with Covid 19, a private family funeral service will take place. When restrictions are lifted, a Celebration of Life will be announced at a future date.
