It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our father Yves Raymond. He passed away peacefully at the Victoria General Hospital in the early morning hours of Saturday, May 6, 2023 at the age of 91.
Dad was predeceased by his wife Lorraine Lucille (Grouette) in 2005. She was the absolute love of his life.
He was also predeceased by his parents Rose Martin and Aristide Raymond, his siblings, Anonyme, Aristide, Roland, Gisèle, Marcelin, Yvette, Gerard, Yvon and his son-in-law Trevor Hutchinson.
Left to cherish his memory, are his children Gisèle (Denis Mager), Jeannie (Chris Gatien), Claude Raymond (Barb) and Michelle (Barry Strike); his grandchildren, Andrea (Eric Robert), Lindsay (Dan Bouchard), Ashley (Kevin Finucane), Chelsey (Brad Lindahl), Kerry (Shamus Aronyk-St.Amour), Cody Strike (Grace), and Dylan Strike (Meghan); great grandchildren Raiden, Sonya, Madison, Gavin, Soren, Arya, Silas, Indie and Gibson; his sisters Carmen and Viviane, and many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Dad was born December 13, 1931 in St. Therese de Blainville, Quebec. He was very proud of his French heritage. He was also a lifelong practicing Roman Catholic and a member of the Knights of Columbus. His faith was central to his life and very important to him.
At the age of 17, he joined the Air Force, working in transportation. He retired after 33 years, and settled down to life in Winnipeg. Following his service in the Military, Dad worked as a security guard at St Amant Centre for ten years.
Dad met Mom at a dance on the Military base in Winnipeg, at Christmas time, 1952. They were married June 20, 1953, and celebrated 52 years together before Mom passed away in 2005. In his younger years, Dad liked to camp, fish, and downhill ski. Later on, his hobbies included reading, solving sudoku puzzles and cryptograms. His family meant everything to him and he was always there, whether it was to help build a cottage, deck or fence, or to fix a vacuum, snowblower, skidoo, or some other electronic item. He really was a jack of all trades. Dad was also very savy on the internet and used to play on-line pool with his brother Yvon, son Claude and others around the world.
After mom’s passing, Dad acquired Rocky (a Pomeranian puppy), who was his constant companion for 16 years.
We know that Dad is now in heaven with Mom and that he was greeted by many that passed before him. We will miss him dearly and he will be forever in our hearts.
The family wishes to thank the staff at St Boniface General Hospital and the Victoria General Hospital where he spent his last days. Special thanks go out to Dr Peitsch and Nurse Linda for their understanding and compassion.
Cremation has already taken place and a private family service has been held.
The family respectfully declines any flowers, but should you wish to make a donation in Dad’s name, please do so to a charity of your choice.
