
Earlene (Peters) Payne, 91, of Northbrook, Illinois, formerly of Clarksville and Navilleton, Indiana died Friday, December 23, 2016 at Silverado Memory Care Center in Lake Zurich, Illinois. Born April 29, 1925 in Reed, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late Earl Larkin and Mary (Wedding) Peters. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph H. Payne (1984); and son, Joseph E. Payne (2006). She was also preceded in death by sisters, Elizabeth, Bernadine, Imogene, Christine, and Evelyn.
Earlene is survived by one daughter and three sons: Janice Payne Krypel, Steven Payne, Jerry Payne, and Jackie Payne; six grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and one great great grandchild. Surviving siblings include Patricia James, Dorothy Chandler, Earl W. Peters, and Bradley Peters.
She was member of St. Norbert Catholic church in Northbrook, Illinois for 20 years, St. Mary’s Navilleton Catholic Church, and St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, Indiana for more than 30 years. Earlene graduated from Indiana University and retired from the U.S. Census Bureau in 1985 after more than 20 years of service. She moved to Northbrook, Illinois in 1996 then worked at St. Norbert Catholic Church for more than 15 years before retiring from work in 2011. She will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am ~ 11:00 am Thursday at St. Mary Navilleton Catholic Church 7500 Navilleton Rd. in Floyds Knobs, Indiana. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 am Thursday at St. Mary’s Navilleton with burial in the church cemetery followed by a meal in the church hall.
