Ethel “Jo” Zachary Newton, 88, died Monday, February 9, 2015 at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest. She was born January 19, 1927 in Franklin, NC to the late Edmund Hal and Nora Belle (Moss) Zachary. She is also preceded in death by her siblings: Virginia Cunningham, Annie Ruth Clark, and John Zachary. A graduate of Franklin High School, Franklin, NC, she helped assemble munitions during World War II. Afterwards, she was employed as a teletype operator at the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office in Michigan. She was a loving and generous wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister who loved collecting and restoring antique furniture, gardening, canning, sewing, quilting, and her many friends and family.

Children: Ramona S. Kuhne (Kurt) of Concord, NC
Harold J. Newton (Sharon) of Metamora, MI
Tamara L. Newton (Robert Music) of Louisville, KY
Grandchildren: Jason B. Kuhne, Wendy W. Kuhne (Scott Barr), Lee C. Newton (Mollie), and Jeremy L. Newton
Great Grandchildren: Anika and Chloe Newton
Sister: Susie Prince
The family extends special thanks to Cancer Care of Western North Carolina, the Western North Carolina Baptist Home, Silvercrest, Hosparus of Southern Indiana, and dear friends for all of their support.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, February 21, 2015 at The Villages at Historic Silvercrest, 1 Silvercrest Dr., New Albany, IN, with a reception to follow. Burial of her urn will follow at a later date in Oakland County, Michigan.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to the American Cancer Society.
