Freda L. (Amy) Nale Irwin

Our beloved mother, grandmother and friend was born September 15, 1916 in Sandwich, Illinois. She was the first child of Allen H. and Mabel Amy. She married William H. Nale. They had two children, William Allen Nale of Georgetown, Indiana and Arlene Sue Thornton of Boise, Idaho.

Freda loved to travel everywhere from Hawaii to Sweden and lots of places in between. She had a very special gift of making friends easily and enjoying life. In her 80’s, Freda married Everett Irwin and their wedding trip was to the Oregon Coast. They were happily married for almost five years and had many adventures.

She was an active member of the Civil Air Patrol for many years. Also, Freda was a member of the Colgate Baptist Church and also attended church services at Yellowwood Terrace and Meridian Methodist Church, Meridian, Idaho.

Freda is survived by her son, William (Christine) Nale; daughter, Arlene S. (Walter) Thornton; step-daughters, Joann Dodd and Janie Baxley and their families; grandchildren, Michael Nale, Marcia Nale, David Thornton and Dana Higby; great grandchildren, Braedon Higby, Colton Higby, Meghan Thornton, Andrea Nale and Dawn McCoy; and two great great grandchildren, Christopher and Tiphani McCoy. Freda’s family and friends will miss her greatly, especially her contagious laugh and giggles and great zest for life.

A Reception of Family and Friends will be from 11 am ~ 12 pm on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. A Celebration of Her Life will be 12 pm Monday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel with private burial to follow in Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park, New Albany.

Special thanks to the friends at Colgate Baptist Church and the many friends at Yellowwood Terrace who enriched her life and were a great blessing to her.
