Gregory Gerard Doninger, 71, of Louisville, passed away peacefully in the early morning of September 22, 2025. He was born April 10, 1954, to Francis A. Doninger, Sr. and Mary Virginia “Ginny” Doninger Henry.
Greg spent his early career as a produce manager at Winn Dixie before discovering his true calling as a respiratory therapist. For over 30 years, he devoted himself to the patients and staff of Jewish Hospital, where he was admired for his skill, compassion, and unwavering work ethic.
Beyond his dedication to his work, Greg’s greatest pride and joy was his family. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend whose life centered around creating memories with those he loved. Greg married his wife, Julie, in 1992, and together they built a life rooted in love, laughter, and shared adventure. He enjoyed cooking and preparing meals to bring his family together, cheering on the University of Kentucky basketball team, traveling with Julie, and spending time outdoors with his loyal dog, Lulu. A lifelong fan of baseball and golf, Greg loved sharing the games with his sons—whether watching a tournament, attending a ballgame, or practicing at the driving range.
Greg is survived by his devoted wife of 33 years, Julie; his sons, Gregory (Jacque), Mark (Amber), Zachary (Beverly), and Nicholas (Jaclyn); his daughter, Shelly; his beloved grandchildren, Gregory III, Logan, Madelyn, Timmy, Sean, Camren, Haylee, and Carter; and his sisters, Judie Mayer (Charlie) and Donna Dant (Dan). He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Francis “Frank” Jr. and Lawrence “Larry” Doninger.
Greg’s legacy is one of love, hard work, and steadfast commitment to his family. His presence will be deeply missed but forever remembered by all who were fortunate to know him.
