

HELEN STOY STREEPEY, 86, died Monday, January 12, 2014. She was born February 18, 1928 in New Albany to Raymond L. and Helen Pierce Stoy. Helen was a retired registered nurse. She graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Indiana University in 1940, and later returned to school graduating with honors from Indiana University Southeast with a nursing degree; and from Bellarmine University where she earned her Masters Degree and later taught nursing classes. She was dedicated to service and volunteer work; most notably donating innumerable hours to the New Albany Public Library and the Carnegie Center. A quilter, she organized quilt shows featuring Southern Indiana quilters for the museum. Helen and Bob loved to hike, backpack, camp and travel. They hiked the Appalachian Trail from Georgia to Maine. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in New Albany, Alpha Club, Tri Kappa and numerous other organizations. Helen was predeceased by her parents; husband, Robert E. Streepey, DMD; daughter, Ellen Elizabeth Streepey; and son-in-law, Pierce D. Hellams.
Survivors include children, Robert S. Streepey and his wife, Kathy, Rebecca P. Hellams, and Kathy K. Katz and her husband, Stuart; grandchildren, Jeremy “Tad” Streepey, Stoy Streepey, and Sarah Katz; and great grandchildren, Stoy, Teague and Hayley.
Visitation will be 4:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Friday and 10:00 am ~ 11:30 am Saturday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany. Her Funeral Service will be 1:00 pm Saturday at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church with burial to follow in Leyden Cemetery, New Albany.
