Herman A Dettlinger Jr.

HERMAN A. DETTLINGER, JR., 80, died Friday, January 27, 2012. The son of the late Eugenia and Herman A. Dettlinger, Sr., Herman was born March 13, 1931 in New Albany, IN. He retired from Coca-Cola after 38 years, worked at Churchill Downs as the cold drink manager for over 25 years and at the Kentucky State Fair for two years as a concessionaire. Herman was a 12 year veteran of the United States Navy, member of American Legion Post #35 in Jeffersonville, Indiana and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was a 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus Father Badin Council and member of St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church in Clarksville, IN. Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia (Heaton) Dettlinger; son, Tony Dettlinger; sister, Rita Ogle; and granddaughter, Courtney Recktenwald.

Survivors include his children, Diana Recktenwald (Kevin) and Tim Dettlinger; sister, Mary Louise Hoffman (George); grandchildren, Stacy Kochersperger (Brian), Brittany Montgomery (Brian), Nicklaus Recktenwald, Crystal Bowman (Eric), Brian Dettlinger and Amy Dettlinger; and great grandchildren, Madeleigh Kochersperger and Eli Bowman.

Visitation will be from 1:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, IN and after 11:00 am Wednesday at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church. His Funeral Mass will be 12:00 pm Wednesday at his church with burial and military honors to follow in Fairview Cemetery, New Albany, IN.
