Iva Pauline Ries

Iva Pauline Ries of Cape Sandy, Indiana passed away peacefully on July 11, 2023, at Green Valley Nursing Home in New Albany, Indiana. She was born on March 7, 1941, to the late Curran E. Morris and Willia Leora (Cummings) Morris. She is preceded in death by brothers, John Leslie Morris and Eugene Morris.

She is survived by her sons, Michael Ries (Cindy), Dale Ries, Tim Ries (Anna), Edward Ries (Laura); and daughter, Roxanne McCarty (Kelly); stepchildren, Carlotta Tennant Padgett (Robb), Richard Tennant (Pam), and Michelle Tennant; sister, Leora Jane Morris-Powell (Terry); fourteen grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.

Pauline graduated from Leavenworth High School in 1958 and later graduated from Spencerian and Ivy Tech colleges. She was married to the late Raymond Ries and together they lived in Edwardsville, Indiana from 1962 to 1985. Pauline was the owner of Pauline’s Corner in New Albany for over 25 years. She was the Vice President of Harvest Homecoming in 1976, a bartender at the old Robert E. Lee, and a bookkeeper for the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles when it was located on Main Street in New Albany. She worked as the past treasurer of Floyd County Parks and Recreation. Pauline was instrumental in helping to create the Edwardsville Ballpark as well as working as a bookkeeper for the Banforth Standard in Clarksville. She coached softball for many years. She was the den mother for the boy scouts and room mother for all of her children. Pauline delivered papers for the New Albany Tribune on county routes for many years. Pauline loved gardening, her poodles, and her flowers.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations may be made to the New Albany Floyd County Parks Department, 620 Park East Blvd, New Albany, Indiana, 47150, or to the New Albany Animal Shelter (ASPCA), 215 W. Market Street, New Albany, Indiana 47150.

Visitation for Pauline will be held on Monday, July 24, 2023, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana, 47150.

A funeral service will be on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at 12:00 pm with visitation before service at the funeral home. Pauline will be laid to rest in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park following services.
