James Drake McCarthy

Drake was a member of Little Flock Baptist Church. He was a proud WKU graduate and former athletic trainer. He was a fraternity brother of Phi Delta Theta.

Drake went on to marry his best friend and fellow college alum, Vickie Darnell. They celebrated 45 beautiful years together and grew their family with their son, Matthew, in 1990. Drake was a proud father and dedicated his time and energy to his family. Drake was a high school teacher and gave of himself to his school and sports. Drake was a prominent, winning girls' softball coach for Bullitt East High School. He was a retired teacher, and full-time Pappy at the time of his passing. Drake was loved by many and a friend to all he met. He will be deeply missed by those he touched.

Drake is survived by his wife, Vickie; son, Matthew (Kara) Louisville, KY; grandchildren Callen Drake, John Wylder, and Kenzi Baylin McCarthy; sister Mary Jane Cherry (Billy), Bowling Green, KY; brother-in-law, Michael Darnell (Cathy), Paducah, KY.

Drake is preceded in death by his mother, Roxie Mabel Drake McCarthy, and his father, James Leslie McCarthy of Bowling Green, KY.

His life will be celebrated at his family’s home with his loved ones and friends, on Monday, September 12, 2022. The family asks in lieu of flowers to please donate in Drake’s name to Shepherdsville Housing First, emergency housing for women and children.
