He was a native of Gaffney, S.C., a United States Army Veteran serving in the Nike Missile Division and a retired sales advertising executive. He was a past member of Morton Memorial United Methodist Church in Clarksville, and was currently attending Walnut Street Baptist Church in Louisville.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Dory Ruddell Hammett; son, Gregory Hammett and his wife, Gretchen; daughter, Laura Hammett Drexler and her husband, Andy; sister, Miriam Parris and her husband, Roy; grandchildren, Cullen, Zachary, Jordan, and Lindsey; brother-in-law, Ralph Ruddell and his wife, Theresa; sisters-in-law, Louise and Norma Ruddell; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Forrest and Mary Ethel Hammett, and his brothers, Gene and Wayne Hammett.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, at the funeral home.
