He graduated from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating from college, he accepted a job at Duke Energy in Clarksville, IN, for several decades. After retiring from Duke Energy, he went to work for Peyton Technical Services in Corydon, IN.
John was an Elder at Georgetown Christian Church and served in many other areas there and was an active member of DaySpring Emmaus of Southern Indiana. He was involved in many community functions.
John is preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Bury Pettit and his father James B. Pettit, Sr. He is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Regina Pettit and his son Justin Pettit. He is also survived by his siblings: James B. Pettit, Jr, Nancy Pettit, and Thomas Pettit.
Visitation will be at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Rd., New Albany, IN from 2:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, January 8, 2021.
