Nécrologie de Joy Marie
Joy Marie (Lukemeier) born May 8, 1948 lived a beautiful life reflecting her name through the joy, kindness, compassion and care she shared with everyone she encountered. Her beautiful smile radiated her joy. She was the only daughter to Henry & Antionette Lukemeier of New Albany, Indiana. A life-long resident of Floyd County and graduate of the New Albany Senior High School class of 1966, she was loved by so many. Her greatest love was for her 3 children Jason Flickner of New Albany, Christina Kiger (Jeremy) of Danville, California and Timothy Flickner of Charlestown, Indiana. She also leaves behind a loving companion John Gage of Louisville. The full depth of her love and Joy in life was being “Grammy” to her three granddaughters Claire, Norah & Evelyn Kiger. Joy loved caring for others and was the primary care-giver to both of her parents and her uncle through their final years. She especially loved animals, nature, and the beauty in this life that she found in music, dancing, and making others smile and laugh through her radiant smile. In recent years, Joy was as a passionate donor to the Ohio River Waterkeeper, a nonprofit dedicated to protecting, restoring, and enjoying the Ohio River and safeguarding the health of the communities she cherished. Joy Marie passed away at 6:30 AM on Sunday, April 24th, 2021 to live in eternity. She leaves behind her three children, three grandchildren, loving companion and many cousins and friends. Her legacy lives on in us, through our Joy and kindness to others. A celebration of Joy’s life will be scheduled in the coming weeks. In lieu of flowers, please consider joining Joy in her support of the Ohio River Waterkeeper by making a financial donation in her memory at OhioRiverWaterkeeper.org/Support. Donations in her memory can also be sent to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network as well. “So be truly glad. There is wonderful joy ahead, even though you must endure many trials for a little while. These trials will show that your faith is genuine. You love him even though you have never seen him. Though you do not see him now, you trust him; and you rejoice with a glorious, inexpressible joy. The reward for trusting him will be the salvation of your souls.” 1 Peter 1:6, 8
