JOYCE ZURSCHMIEDE DENNY passed away early Saturday morning, December 5, 2015. The daughter of the late Herb and Louise (Spencer) Zurschmiede, Joyce was born on September 30, 1936, in New Albany, Indiana. Joyce was one-of-a-kind. Not only beautiful and generous to her family and friends, she was also sassy and outspoken, with a great sense of humor.
Joyce was a 1954 graduate of New Albany High School, and worked for years scheduling surgeries at Orthopedic Surgeons. On September 4, 1954, she married Stan Denny and had two children, Cheryl and Steve. Joyce filled her days with her favorite activity, babysitting her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Some of her other favorite things included a warm fire, a Coke with a lot of ice, filet mignon, uploading pictures of her family to Facebook, and back rubs from Stan.
Joyce’s grandchildren, who lovingly called her “The Nin,” will always remember her fun-loving nature, trips to Disney, Gatlinburg, and Ft. Myers Beach, staying up late on New Year’s Eve, shopping with “Popaw’s” credit card, meals out, lounging by the pool, and being told exactly what they should be doing, and when they should be doing it.
There is now a hole in the hearts of those who loved her. We will all miss her laugh, her sense of humor, her endless spoiling of her family, and the numerous phone calls per day just to chat, usually while she was driving from point A to point B.
Joyce’s family will look for her on the beaches of Ft. Myers, Florida as she said she’d like to come back as a pelican, sitting on the pier and watching the people as they pass.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Stanley R. Denny; daughter and son-in-law, Cheryl and Peter Tucker; son and daughter-in-law, Steve and Dawn Denny; loving sister and brother-in-law, Betty Jo and Doc Braitling; sister, Linda Lynn; grandchildren, Steve Beyl (Corinne), Sarah Furlow (Chris), Kristina Van Laan (Tim), Lucas Denny (Alex), Grace and LuLu Denny; and great-grandchildren, Kramer and Truman Beyl, Mikel Furlow and Stanley Van Laan.
Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. Her Funeral Service will be 12 p.m. Wednesday in the Kraft Charlestown Road Chapel, New Albany.
