Karen Sue Kern

Karen Sue (White) Kern, lovingly known by all as “Ninni,” 80, of Charlestown, Indiana, passed away on Monday, June 2, 2025. Born on December 18, 1944, in St. Albans, West Virginia, to Willie Ray and Gladys Opal White, she lived a life rich in warmth, laughter, and a fiercely loyal love for her family.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Tim Kern, who passed in 2014. She is survived by her devoted daughter, Terri Stockslager (Dennis); her cherished grandchildren: Christopher Vessels (Kris), Alicia McCoy (Adam), Andrew Hatton (Hannah), Anna Swarens (Kyle), Jeffrey Vessels (Alanna), Lindsey Vessels, Jadyn Vessels, and Lydia Rances (Samuel); and her treasured great-grandchildren: Hazel, Rosemary, Harper and Emmalyn.

Karen retired as a high school cafeteria manager, having spent her career nourishing generations of students. After her retirement, she compassionately served at the Community Kitchen, forging lasting connections. Known by her loved ones as the “living Google,” she was quick-witted, unfiltered, and honest, always ready with a sarcastic remark or a story that brought laughter.

She loved animals, dancing, jigsaw puzzles, reading, and traveling – always seeking adventure, whether on the road or through the pages of a good book. She had an intense love for the beaches in Florida and visited there frequently. She adored her grandchildren and found deep joy in lively conversations with them. Karen was a constant source of love, humor and wisdom – and her presence will be missed beyond words.

A visitation will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana on Friday, June 13, 2025, from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Saturday, June 14, 2025 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. Her funeral service will be held at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, on Saturday, June 14, 2025 at 11:00 am with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.

In her honor, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital at stjude.org
