

Leona C. Elsler, 99 years of age passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at the home of her loving son Douglas in New Albany. She was born December 5, 1912 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Henry and Mary Mohr. Leona was welcomed home into heaven by her mother and father, her husband John, and her son Marvin. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend to all. She loved working in her yard and had so many beautiful flowers that bloomed the entire summer. We always said she had a green thumb. She retired from the Jefferson County School System where she worked for many years as a manager and was an Avon Representative and in the Presidents Club for over 30 years. She was a member of the old St. Cecilia Catholic Church and Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Louisville. Leona was a past president and treasurer of the local AARP at the Senior Citizen House, was active with the Redman Degree of Pocahontas Alfaretta #4, and wrote articles for the Portland Anchor.
Survivors include her children, Mary McGinty of Louisville, Kentucky, Robert Elsler (Margie) of Clarksville, Indiana, Douglas Elsler (Vicki) of New Albany, Indiana, Patricia “Pat” Peyton of Georgetown, Indiana; 15 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren, and 9 great great grandchildren
Visitation will be from 12:00 pm ~ 8:00 pm Friday at Kraft Funeral Service, 708 E. Spring Street, New Albany, Indiana. Her funeral Mass will be 10:00 am Saturday at Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 3511 Rudd Ave. Louisville, Kentucky with burial to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
