Mariam Louise McNally, 98, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, October 12, 2021. Mariam was born April 30, 1923 in New Albany, Indiana to the late Willard and Leona Box. She was retired from Floyd Memorial Hospital as a Physical Therapy Coordinator. She was a long time member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mariam was a veteran in the United States Marine Corps completing basic training at Camp LeJeune, NC and was stationed in Quantico, VA during WWII. After service she returned to New Albany and worked as a telephone operator for Indiana Bell until marrying Robert E. McNally in 1951.
Mariam was an avid golfer and a member of Valley View Golf Club and the New Albany Country Club. She walked to and from her job at the hospital nearly every day and enjoyed walking until nearly the end of her life. She loved lying in the sun, being on a beach, feeding the birds and dancing at the VFW. Mariam's fiery nature coupled with her husband "Mick's" more traditional one made for a perfect match for 49 loving years. She was a devoted Mother and Grandmother and loved her family beyond measure. Mariam had a great sense of humor as well as a great sense of style; always looking beautiful while up to some mischief.
The family would like to thank Ashley Neal of Visiting Angels for her excellent, loving care of Mariam during the last year and Lewis Barrett for being a friend as well as hairstylist for Mariam for so many years. Never ending gratitude to Lewis Teasdale, Mariam's longtime companion, for his love, care and devotion for the last fifteen years.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Robert McNally Sr., siblings, Winifred Little and Donald Box; and grandson, Isaiah Chodkowski.
Mariam is survived by five children, Karen (Paul) Lichtefeld, Barbara (Brad Brandt) McNally, Robert McNally Jr., Mark (the late Vicki) McNally and Jana McNally; seven grandchildren, Jed Dougherty, Joey Dougherty, Amy McNally, Anna McNally, Sean McNally, Noah Chodkowski and Eliah Chodkowski; a great grandson, Dylan McNally-Wand and longtime companion, Lewis Teasdale.
