

Martha Elizabeth (Bush) Hoke, “Mert,” 86 of Jeffersonville, IN passed away at home surrounded by loved ones in the early morning of Thursday, June 27th, 2024. She was born on September 5th, 1937, in New Albany, IN to the late Charles Bush and Shellie (Quiggins) Bush. Martha and her husband Calvin owned the Little Tiger Food Mart in New Albany for over 55 years.
Martha was a member of the First Church of God in New Albany. She remained friends her entire life with her New Albany High School gals called the “Crazy 8”. Martha was an avid IU & Bobby Knight fan and loved listening to Elvis. She enjoyed having a house full of people and was always on the move. Martha liked to stay busy going out to eat, shopping or taking care of their many animals. In her younger days, she worked at the Army Ammunition Plant in Charlestown Indiana packing gun powder and enjoyed going bowling on the weekends.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her brother Ernie Bush (Maryann), her son Charles Edward Douglas, stepdaughter Leslie Hoke Sieg, grandson Chuck Douglas and great- granddaughter Sandra King Douglas.
Left to cherish her memory; loving husband of 53 years, Calvin Hoke; sons, Perry Douglas (Debbie, Jessica & Ghered), Danny Douglas (Jasmine), Jeff Hoke (Lori, Brianna & Dheaven); daughter, Stacy Mitchell (Steve). Stepsons Calvin E Hoke Jr., Mike Hoke (Debbie), Gary Hoke (Judy), Randy Hoke (Angie), stepdaughters Janet Fitzpatrick (Charlie) and Martha Gilmore (Tony). Brother, David Bush (Alice) and Daughter-in-law Anna Douglas.
Martha was known as “Mammaw” or Grandma by her 28 grandchildren, 42 great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the caregivers that helped her remain at home with dignity and respect. Tanya, Alta, Fran, LG, Kala & Ann.
Visitation will be held at the Kraft Funeral Service, Charlestown Road Chapel on Tuesday July 2, 2024, from 1pm-7pm and from 9am-11am on Wednesday July 3, 2024. Funeral Service will be on Wednesday July 3, 2024, at 11am with entombment to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park.
Expressions of sympathy can be made in the form of donations in Martha’s name to the Animal Protection Association in Jeffersonville, Indiana
