Mary Ann Hasselback passed away peacefully at the age of 91 on November 3, 2022. She was born in New Albany, Indiana on September 5, 1931 to Joseph Sr. and Mary (Hall) DeVore and was the oldest of six children. A lifelong Hoosier, she graduated from New Albany High School in 1949 and worked at L&N Railroad and the Indiana License Bureau before retiring in 1980 to care for her late husband.
She was a faithful Catholic and exemplified a life of love and grace. Slow to anger and quick to forgive, she was a caring hand and source of stability for all who knew her, even during times of great personal hardship. She loved spending time with her family and reciting the rosary with her sisters. She also loved to quilt, travel and play cards. We can see her now playing Euchre and Pinochle late into the evenings, laughing and enjoying the company of her loved ones.
Mary Ann was preceded in death by her two loving husbands, Donald R. Deuser for 40 years and then James C. Hasselback for 12 years, and by her brothers, Johnny and Jimmy DeVore. She is survived by her siblings, Helen Henderson, Joseph Jr “Buddy” (Sherry) DeVore, Jeanie McKinley, and her four children, Mona Highfill, Dale (Amy) Deuser, Philip (Doris) Deuser, and Doni Ann (Barry) McAfee, along with her 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from 2-8pm on Wednesday, November 9 at Kraft Funeral Services on Spring Street in New Albany.
Funeral services will follow at 11am on Thursday, November 10 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville, Indiana, where Mary Ann attended for more than 50 years.
