

Max Gordon Rector, 90 years young passed away suddenly Saturday, February 27, 2021. Max was born January 22, 1931 in Corydon, Indiana to the late Charles and Nova (Crawford) Rector. He married his childhood sweetheart and the love of his life, Mary Ellen Nash in August 1949. Together they enjoyed travel, bowling, some camping and working in the yard, but their greatest joy was their family.
Max's first job was at Hendricks Eggs in Harrison County, but went to linotype school and became a printer. He started at the Pekin Banner, then the Salem Democrat, the Bloomington Herald Times, then the Courier Journal Louisville Times until he retired in 1991. Upon retirement, he worked for 20 years for Dr. Oakes (Excellence in Dentistry). He was surrounded by family at his beck and call. Max was still mowing his lawn at age 89, and enjoying his goal of independent living until his death.
Max is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Ruth Bussabarger; brothers, Jack and George; and a grandson, Brandon Rector.
He is survived by a daughter, Brenda McDonald (Ron); a son, Mark Rector (Ginnie); grandchildren, David Stumler, (Tiffany), Brittney Sanders (Justin), and Brandy Spidel (Travis); great-grandchildren, Noah, Jacob and Kaylee Stumler, Molly and Adelyn Spidel, Reese, Riley and Remi Sanders; two step-granddaughters; seven step-great-grandchildren and six step-great-great grandchildren.
Visitation will be Friday, March 5, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road. Private Committal service will be in Kraft Graceland Memorial Park.
