After a two year battle with cancer, MICHAEL EDWARD KOERBER died on February 22, 2015 in New York City, NY at the age of 63. He leaves behind his wife of 38 years, Felecia (Derringer) Koerber; son, Joshua Koerber, daughter-in-law, Danielle and granddaughter, Madeleine; and daughter, Jacquelyn Koerber.
Michael was born on February 8, 1952 in New Albany, IN, to Leo and Catherine Koerber. He grew up in a large, loving family with three brothers and eight sisters in Starlight, IN. Michael served his country in the Indiana National Guard. Early in Michael’s working career at Standard Oil (Chevron) in Louisville, KY, he met Felecia. They were married on June 5, 1976. After several career relocations, they moved back to Southern Indiana and Koerber’s Fine Jewelry became their shared passion.
Michael was a caring and adventurous person. He loved to travel, ride his motorcycle, hunt, play cards and be with family. When diagnosed with cancer, he remained dedicated to his family, his work and in his will to fight his illness. Because of Michael overwhelming love of his wife and family, he remained a strong person, even throughout his final months.
Michael is survived by his brothers, Jim (Rita), Steve (Donna), and John (Michele) Koerber; his sisters, Kathy (Roland) King, Ann (Mike) Bennett, Jean (Larry) Everage, Mary (Mike) Temple, Roberta (John) Craig, Betty (Dave) Roll, Joy (Tim) Foster and Rosie (David Hoback) Koerber; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Charles and Mary Lou Derringer; sisters-in-law, Teresa Lunsford and DeeLisa Willard; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, David Koerber, who died in infancy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 27, from 4:00pm - 8:00pm and Saturday, February 28 from 11:00am - 8:00pm at Kraft Funeral Home, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, IN. A funeral Mass and burial will be at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Starlight, on Monday, March 2 at 11:00am. The family would especially like to thank the staff of Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) in NYC for their constant, attentive treatment and care. Donations may be made to giving.mskcc.org or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
