Nelson W. Stone

Nelson W. Stone, 82 years of age passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at his home in New Albany. He was born February 27, 1934 in New Albany to the late Nelson and Dorothy Stone. Nelson was a retired supervisor from the Indiana Gas Co., an Army Veteran and a lifelong member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in New Albany. He was a recipient of the Giants in Faith Award in 2012 and the Bell Award in 2013. Nelson volunteered at many organizations over the years which included Hope of Southern Indiana, Robert E. Lee Nursing Home, Meals on Wheels, and Repair Affair. He loved the outdoor activities such as fishing, hunting, and camping with his family, travel. Along with his parents, Nelson was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Sis (Dick); brothers-in-law, Tony and Bill.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Patricia Aemmer Stone; children, Becky Stone Decker, Vicky Dee Stone, Mike W. Stone (Kelley), Dave N. Stone (Laura), Jenny Stone Kemp (T.J.); sisters-in-law, Donna (Jack), Marggie (Wilbur), Lou (Larry), Carol, Linda; brothers-in-law, Bob (Barbara), Dick (Kathy); 17 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11:00 am Monday at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.

The family requests expressions of sympathy to be made to Amedisys Hospice Care, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
