Norman Bodenbender

Norman was the founder and operator of Bodenbender & Shawler Construction Co. until his retirement. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran who joined the Marine Corps after traveling with the Circus/Carnival in the summer years. He married the love of his life, Helen Jeanette Faulkner May 11, 1962 and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Norman's biggest enjoyment was his farm and watching his family and grandkids enjoy it. He was a dedicated environmental conservationist and received the 2002 Indiana conservation Farmer of the year award and the 2010 River Friendly Farmer Award. He was preceded in death by his parents and son Scott Bodenbender.

Norman recently enjoyed Christmas with his entire family and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. Friends and Family alike have always reached out to Norman for advice. His ability to counsel those around him was truly unrivaled. He held closely his faith in God and Family and left behind a better life for everyone. Survivors include wife of 53 years, Helen J. (Faulkner) Bodenbender; four children, Cynthia "Cyndi" Bodenbender, Todd Bodenbender (C.J.- Cynthia), Roger Bodenbender (Kimberly), Travis Bodenbender; four siblings, Winnie Gay Casey, Gary(Sherlynn), Randal (Mona), Greg (Melanie) Bodenbender; eight grandchildren, Tara(Travis), Wesley(Jessica), Cody(Sarah), Kayelynn, Kandace, Christopher(Katie), Scott and Shaun; seven great-grandchildren, Trinity, Ty, Treasure, Luke, Louis, Elias and Arriya; one great-great-grandchild, Hadley Mae.

Visitation will be from 12 noon - 8 p.m. Friday and after 8 a.m. Saturday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Liturgy will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial with Full Military Honors in St. Mary's New Albany Cemetery. A remembrance service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at Kraft's. The family request expression of sympathy in his honor to: A.S.D. (Autism Spectrum Disorder), Down Syndrome or to The Wounded Warriors Project.
