Alfred Robert "Bob" Vachon, passed away peacefully on February 26, 2026, at the age of 93, after a long life defined by hard work, loyalty, and laughter. He was the devoted husband of the late Patricia Vachon for 51 years, a partnership that shaped the foundation of his family and life.
Born in Fall River, Massachusetts, to Alma (Cote) and Al Leshinsky, Bob was a proud 1951 graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School. He played varsity football and basketball, earning the respect of teammates and classmates alike. He was also Voted “Most Popular” his senior year, a title that seemed to stay with him throughout his life. He was later inducted into the B.M.C. Durfee Athletic Hall of Fame, an honor he carried with quiet pride.
After high school, Bob enlisted in the United States Navy, serving four years and traveling abroad — an experience that shaped his discipline and determination.
Bob devoted 50+ years to the textile industry. He began his career at K&G Dress in Fall River and later worked at Edwards Machine, where he met Patricia, the love of his life. He continued on to SunBrand, building his knowledge and reputation in the field. Eventually, he relocated the family to Merrick, New York, where he served as President of Unity Sewing Supply. Later, he returned home to Dartmouth, where he and Patricia founded Dan-Mar Sewing Supply Co. in Fall River — a true family business built on hard work, partnership, and pride.
Bob’s knowledge of the industry was unsurpassed. He was widely respected and formed many lifelong friendships with colleagues who valued not only his expertise, but his integrity and character. Over the years, he touched countless lives through his generosity, mentorship, and steady presence.
He is survived by his beloved children, Danielle and Marc Vachon; Robert “Skip” Vachon; Stephen Vachon; and Christopher Vachon; his devoted sisters, Sheila Oliveira and Ilene Cummings; his cherished granddaughter, Nayeli Vachon; and
Step-granddaughters Nalani and amber Betancourt, and several nieces and nephews.
Bob was kind, full of life, and endlessly generous. He helped others not out of obligation, but because he believed it was the right thing to do. He touched so many lives, and to those who loved him most, he was simply the greatest father, brother, friend, mentor, and example of how to live with integrity.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, March 11, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. with a service to be held at 12 noon at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Boulevard, New Bedford. A graveside service will immediately follow at St. Patrick’s Cemetery in Fall River.
