

Albert J. Desrosiers, age 88, of N. Dartmouth, formerly of Brook St., New Bedford, died peacefully on Saturday, December 24, 2016 in New Bedford. He was the husband of Claire Y. (Desruisseau) Desrosiers to whom he had been married for 63 years.
He was a man who always placed his family first. He was a kind and generous person who was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. He was filled with enthusiasm and his “fantastic” spirit will be missed. He enjoyed shooting basketballs with neighborhood children and quizzing them on their math and spelling skills. He looked forward to treating the students at the Phillips Avenue School to ice cream each spring. Albert was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict and earned the rank of Technical Sergeant. He was awarded the Army Occupation Medal Germany. Mr. “D” was instrumental in organizing women’s softball at Brooklawn Park where he coached Poyant Shoes Softball Team for several years. He later coached men’s softball. “Uncle Al” retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a Postal Clerk after 37 years of service. He worked at the main post office in New Bedford, but often did temporary duty at the local branches.
In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by six children, Diane Gauvin and her husband, Michael, of Haverhill, MA, Suzanne Dumas and her husband, Raymond, of Egg Harbor Township, NJ, Janine Duarte and her husband, Steven, of N. Dartmouth, David Desrosiers and his wife, Diane, of St. Charles, IL, Jacqueline Longo and her companion Dennis Catteral of Acushnet, MA and Stephen Desrosiers and his wife Lauren, of S. Dartmouth; eleven grandchildren, Brian, Matthew and Jason Rinehart, Rae-Anne (Dumas) Brown, Nicholas Dumas, Claire (Desrosiers) Boven, Henri, Lillian, Amanda and Timothy Desrosiers and Nicholas Longo; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind two sisters Alice Fiano and Yvette Cote. He was predeceased by his parents J. Aldege and Alice (Gamache) Desrosiers and siblings George, Leo, Lucille, Paul, Gerard, Louise, Aldege, Irene and Eugene.
His Funeral will be held on Friday, December 30, 2016 at 9AM from the ROCK FUNERAL HOME 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his Funeral Mass at 10AM in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford.
