Aline Cecile Lamarre

NEW BEDFORD, MA: Aline Cecile (Castonguay) Lamarre, 94, died peacefully at home surrounded by her family on May 28, 2023. The daughter of the late Wilfred and Arzelia Castonguay, she was the widow of Ronald R. Lamarre, who died in 1998.

Aline completed teacher training and taught for several years at St. Joseph’s School in New Bedford. Upon starting her family, she was a homemaker until returning to work as the housekeeper at St. Therese Parish.

Devout in her Catholic faith, Aline served St. Joseph’s Parish as a eucharistic minister, lector, and member of the choir. She directed the parish’s CCD program for many years, combining her numerous talents as teacher, organizer, and servant of the Lord. She served on the Parish Council and received the Marian Medal from Bishop Daniel Cronin. Most recently, she was a parishioner of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in New Bedford.

With a home full of love to share, Aline and Ronald were foster parents with Catholic Social Services for many years.

Aline was devoted to her family. She was a model of selfless love, loyalty, and strength for her six children: Daniel; Richard (Cathy); Donald (Anna); Michelle Houde (Douglas); Anne Marie Lamarre-Porto (Sam); and Kris Lynn Cambra (Shawn). She is survived by many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; great-nieces and nephews; and her sister Doris Richard (Paul).

She was predeceased by her brothers, Ernest and Leo Castonguay, and her sisters Claire Coderre Moniz and Pauline Poisson.

Her visitation will be held on Sunday, June 04, 2023, from 4:00PM-7:00PM in the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Her funeral will be held on Monday, June 05, 2023 at 9:00AM from the Rock Funeral Home, followed by her Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00AM at Saint Gabriel's Archangel Catholic Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford.
