Armand J. Fournier, 93, of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, September 2, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Rogers) Fournier with whom he shared 51 years of marriage until her passing in 2004.
Born in New Bedford, son of the late Paul and Diana (Fortier) Fournier, he was a lifelong resident of the city.
Mr. Fournier proudly served in the United States Army and was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and World War II Victory Medal.
He served as a District Chief for the New Bedford Fire Department for 33 years until his retirement in 1988.
Armand enjoyed the comforts of his home, reading, gardening and swinging on his front porch. He enjoyed fishing when he could and most of all, loved spending time with his family and grandchildren whom he adored.
Survivors include his children, Jacqueline Charron and her husband Scott of Rochester, Christine Rebelo and her companion John of New Bedford and Richard Fournier of New Bedford; a brother, Robert Fournier; seven grandchildren; twelve great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Suzanne Marie Fournier and his siblings, Claire Vickers, Juliette Matesich, Doris Berube and Raymond Fournier.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 7, 2021 from 9-10 a.m. with a Funeral Service at 10 a.m. at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
