Arthur "Art" Nery

Arthur Nery, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Thursday, September 12, 2024. He was the beloved husband of Liduina “Winnie” (Gomes) Nery, with whom he shared 70 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, Arthur, "Art," was the son of the late Christopher and Laura Nery. A longtime resident of New Bedford, Arthur’s life was marked by service, creativity, and dedication. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran, a Grandmaster of the Masonic Lodge, and a dedicated letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service. Later he became a bilingual teacher and assistant soccer coach at the Greater New Bedford Vocational Technical School.

An accomplished artist and skilled scrimshander, Arthur's creativity was boundless & earned him the title of the family's "Mr. Fix-It." Whether repairing or creating, Arthur's presence was a gift.

He is survived by his children, Kevin and his wife Lori of New Bedford, Ronald and his wife Deborah of Assonet; his cherished grandchildren, Jillian Grolley and her husband Justin of East Freetown, Alexander Nery of Fall River, and Nicole Nery of Florida; his great-grandsons, Benson Nery Grolley and Anderson Arthur Grolley. He also leaves behind his sister, Natalie Alves of Fall River, and many nieces and nephews. Arthur was predeceased by his brother, John Nery, and his sisters, Zulmira Dias and Alice Silva.

Visiting hours will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA 02745. Funeral and Burial will be Private.
