

Augusto Moniz Picaro, age 86, of New Bedford passed away on Wednesday, October, 27, 2021 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a period of declining health. He was the husband of Maria J. (Medeiros-Pereira) Picaro with whom he shared 66 years of marriage.
Born in Sao Miguel, Acores, Portugal, a son of the late Manuel Mendes Andrada and Celestiana Moniz Picaro he grew up there and immigrated to America in 1971. He was a communicant of Our Lady of The Immaculate Conception Church.
While in Portugal, Mr. Picaro served in the Portuguese military. He worked in construction as a laborer for many years.
Augusto loved fishing and being near the ocean. He enjoyed playing cards with his friends and being a part of the St. Michael’s Social Club. He was also an avid soccer fan, with an enduring passion for S.L. Benfica of the Portuguese Primeira Liga until his final days.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his two daughters; Adelia Demelo and her husband Antonio of Dartmouth, Phoebe Pimentel and her husband Emanuel of Dartmouth; three sons, Eusebio Picaro and his wife Susan of Westport, Joseph Picaro and his wife Lynne of North Carolina and Mario Picaro of Swansea; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
