Beatrice G. Houde

Beatrice G. (Vezina) Houde, 78, of New Bedford, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2015 at Our Lady’s Haven in Fairhaven following a long illness. She was the wife of Albert J. L. Houde with whom she shared 54 years of marriage.

Born in Fall River, a daughter of the late Albert and Marie (Grenier) Vezina, she spent her youth in Fall River before moving to New Bedford. She was a graduate of B.M.C. Durfee High School, class of 1955.

Mrs. Houde had worked as an office clerk for J. O’Neil Supply and Kids R Us and also was a manager at Natouri. She was a special needs monitor for Tremblay Bus Co. for 8 years.

A longtime member of St. Mary’s Church in New Bedford, she was a member of the choir and a CCD teacher. She was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Mary’s Church for over 30 years. She and her husband were members of the former Diocesan music ministry for the Cursillo movement.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her children, Douglas Houde and wife Michelle of Wesley Chapel, FL, Gerald Houde and wife Joanne of New Bedford, Daniel Houde and partner Don Wajda of Framingham, and Marie Houde of New Bedford; her siblings, Jene Pichette, Delores Gagne and husband Ted, Gertrude Galego and Donald Vezina and wife Pauline; grandchildren, Stephanie Singer and husband Dan, Jennifer Houde and husband Chris Farias, Joshua Houde, Brittany Houde and fiancé Collin Correia, and Jared Houde; great grandchildren, Madison and Makenzie Singer, Mason Davis, Audrey Farias and Eleanor Farias; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by eight siblings.

Her Funeral will be held on Thursday, August 27, 2015 at 8:30AM from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a Funeral Mass at 9:30AM in St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Visiting hours Wednesday 5-8PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
