Born in Acushnet, daughter of the late Gilbert J. and Wilma J. (Westgate) Nunes, she resided in New Bedford for most of her life.
Beverly received her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from Bridgewater State College and her Master’s degree in Rehab Counseling from Assumption College. She had a successful and rewarding career as a Social Worker/rehabilitation counselor at St. Anne’s Hospital in Fall River.
Beverly was a member of the National Association of Drug and Alcohol Counseling and a member of the Hebrew Ladies Helping Hand Society. She enjoyed spending time at all the local senior centers and loved line dancing. Her favorite things included exercising, going for walks, making puzzles, and coffee ice cream. Beverly also loved to babysit her great nieces. With a love for education, she was always eager to learn something new.
Her family includes a son, Randall Wayne Arruda of Florida; a daughter, Joycelin Marie Arruda of Acton, MA; two sisters, Eleanor Lauzon and Carol McCarthy of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Brandy Arruda and Alexander Arruda; her niece and caregiver, Lisa J. Mota of New Bedford; and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her companion Albert Sylvia of Acushnet. She was predeceased by her brothers, Gilbert (Donald) Nunes and Robert L. Nunes.
Per Beverly’s wishes, her body was donated to Harvard Medical School in Boston. A memorial will be given at a later date.
