Cecile A. (Mathieu) Jacques, went home to the Lord after a lengthy struggle with Alzheimers on Monday, November 8, 2021 at the age of 84. She passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family. Cecile lived in Dartmouth and was formerly from New Bedford. She was the beloved bride of the late Rene L. Jacques.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Albert C. and Zelda (Lewis) Mathieu, she lived most of her life in New Bedford before moving to Dartmouth 2 months ago. Cecile attended Sacred Hearts Academy in Fairhaven and graduated from Holy Family High School in 1955.
Mrs. Jacques became a Phlebotomist at St. Luke’s Hospital after graduating from Holy Family. After having her children, she began working mother’s hours as a Packer at Grinnell Pajama Factory. Once her children had grown, she began working full-time as a Bakery Clerk at Shaw’s Supermarket in Dartmouth. She retired from Shaw’s after 13 years in 1998.
Cecile was a longtime communicant of St. Joseph-St. Therese Parish in New Bedford. Her faith was a huge part of her life. She and her husband served as Eucharistic Minsters and held positions on various church councils. She was also an active member of the Catholic Order of Foresters with her husband who was the State Chief Ranger. Lastly, Cecile was a member of the French Cotillion.
Cecile lived for her family. She was a dedicated, loving and giving mother, grandmother and aunt. There was nothing she wouldn’t do for her children and grandchildren. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother for years with her sons and when her daughter needed a cheerleading coach at Bishop Stang High School she jumped right in and volunteered. She was a gifted seamstress and used her talents to make new uniforms for the majorities and color guard at Bishop Stang. Cecile didn’t stop there, she loved to scrapbook to capture all the memories of her family throughout the years. She is finally reunited with the love of her life, Rene. Their marriage was a beautiful example of working hard together, supporting one another and including God in their lives.
The family would like to give a special thank you to all the amazing staff that have helped care for Cecile over the years. Eileen from Home Instead, Patty and Grace from Community Nurse of Fairhaven and Shalia, Maria, Brianna and Andrea from Care with Love.
