Charles F. Souza

Charles F. Souza, 81, of Acushnet, passed away on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at St. Luke’s Hospital following a brief illness surrounded by his family. He was the devoted husband of Claire (Cardoza) Souza.

Born in Acushnet, he was the son of the late Charles J. and Rose (Alphonse) Souza and was a lifelong resident of the community.

Charlie was a graduate of New Bedford High School. For 30 years, he worked as a driver salesman for Drake Bakeries, later becoming the owner and operator of Connelly Liquors.

A longstanding member of the Livesey Club in Fairhaven, Charles had a passion for sports, gardening, trips to Florida, visits to the casino, and, most importantly, spending time with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sharon Souza of Fort Lauderdale, FL, and Lynn Lewis of Middleborough; four grandchildren, Tristan, Hunter, Markey, and Erin; one great-grandchild, Ava; a sister, Sandra Soucy of Acushnet; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Douglas Souza.

His funeral service will be Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 9 a.m. in the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Riverside Cemetery, 274 Main St., Fairhaven.
