

Born in New Bedford, a son of the late Clinton E. and Edna L. (Richer) Allen he was a lifelong area resident and longtime winter resident of Lithia, FL. He was a member and Deacon at the First Congregational Church at Lunds Corner. Most recently he attended East Freetown Congregational Christian Church.
Mr. Allen served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. Buddy worked as a New Bedford firefighter for 25 years, retiring in 1993. He was also a self-employed carpet installer for several years. Buddy was an Assistant Harbor Master of Mattapoisett for many years. He later went on to work with his daughter, Bonny, as a transportation driver for Community Connections in Fairhaven for five years until he was fully retired.
Buddy was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and in his spare time he enjoyed boating, especially sailing. When he wasn’t traveling, he spent time woodworking and reading. Many will remember Buddy as an avid golfer since the time he was a young man and won numerous trophies. Others may remember his love of freshwater fishing in which he won the state record in 1964 for a 10 pound largemouth bass.
He is survived by his children, Bonny L. Paiva and her companion Dennis Sylvia of New Bedford, Clinton E. Allen and his wife Rhonda of Dartmouth and Debra Chmiel and her husband Peter of Mattapoisett; grandchildren, Jonathan D. Paiva and his wife Farrah, Casey C. Allen and his wife Meagan, Andrew Baptiste, and Rebecca Cardoso and her husband Steven, Kelly Lygren and her husband Tim; and six great grandchildren, Grayson, Lola, Amelia, Scarlett, Lily, and Cora.
