Donald, you were beyond a neighbor. You were a father image to me. With your kindness, you made it possible for us to hang in there with home ownership. You truly will be missed. It was an honor to have known you.

Donald was part of my life from the very beginning. Born two months apart, we lived across the street from each other for about the first 20 years. He was more a brother than a neighbor. Donald was independent, with a set of principles that he adhered to regardless the cost. He was comfortable in his own skin; knowing who he was and what he wasn’t and never trying to be the other. He wasn’t a follower and was thus a leader, though he was also content to simply be on his own. He was a loyal friend who stuck by you no matter what. He was warm, thoughtful and caring and could be funny when he wanted. He was lucky, winning the lottery twice – once when he won the MA Lottery and again when he met and married Cheryl. His passing leaves a hole in the life of each of us who were fortunate enough to have known him.
Here’s a photo of me, Richie Gwozdz, and Donald from a few years back.

When I was young my brothers were friends with Donald since we lived across the street from them in a trailer on Main Street. I used to go over to talk to Wendell and Jenny, they were so nice and friendly. The last few times I've visited Acushnet my brother Mike took me over to see Donald and he was so sweet and kind. He would give us tomatoes from his plants and they were so delicious. At one time Donald and Cheryl moved to Maine with my brother Dave and his family. Donald will surely be missed. My heart goes out to Cheryl, praying for your healing. God Bless You!
