Dorothy C. Caron Cormier

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Hormidas and Florida (Alexander) Caron, she was a lifelong resident of the city and graduate of New Bedford High School. Mrs. Cormier was a very active resident of the Melville Towers where she was the “Sunshine Lady” for 32 years. For her 90th birthday, Mrs. Cormier was the recipient of a “card shower”, which her granddaughter Carol arranged to celebrate not only her birthday but to acknowledge the “Sunshine” she brought to many other residents in her community. Mrs. Cormier received over 175 birthday cards from all over the United States and several from other countries.

Mrs. Cormier is survived by her two sons Robert D. Cormier of New Bedford and Richard A. Cormier and his wife Judy of Yarmouth, ME; three grandchildren Kim Souza, Carol Shannon and Michael Cormier; four great-grandchildren Kelsey Shannon, Quinn Shannon, Kadi Souza and Kara Souza; one sister Jeannette Oliveira and her husband Arthur of Sarasota, FL; former daughter in-law Rosanna Cormier and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Rita Stykowski and Stephen and Leo Caron.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 5 to 8pm with a Memorial Service at 6pm in the BROOKLAWN FUNERAL HOME 15 Irvington Ct., New Bedford.
