Ernest H. Smith

Born in Chelsea, MA, the son of the late Hardy N. and Florence (Ross) Smith, he was raised in Nova Scotia and lived in Boston, Norwood and Dorchester before settling in New Bedford in 2002.

He was a United States Navy Veteran having served as a Seaman First Class during World War II.

He had a long successful career as an exterior and interior painter.

Ernest enjoyed painting by brush, trips to the casinos and watching sports, especially the Red Sox, Patriots, Bruins and boxing matches.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a daughter, Beatrice L. Smith of New Bedford; two sons, Ernest E. Smith and his wife Christina of Yuma, Arizona and Joseph E. Smith and his wife Jeannie of Leconto, Florida; 9 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Nelson J. Smith and brother of the late Bernice Townsend and Irene Corish.
