

Frederick A. Nunes, age 87, of New Bedford, passed away Friday, July 26, 2013 in the New Bedford Jewish Convalescent Home. He was the husband of Evelyn M. (Lawrence) Nunes to whom he has been married for the past 63 years.
Born in Acushnet, a son of the late Clarence M. and Nora M. (McLoughlin) Nunes, he had been a lifelong area resident having lived in New Bedford and Acushnet.
A veteran of the United States Army Air Force, he served during World War II as a Private First Class and later worked as a Presser for Calvin Clothing for many years.
A longtime communicant of St. Mary’s Church in Fairhaven, he was a member of the Men of Sacred Heart. He enjoyed walking, music, writing letters to the editor at the New Bedford Standard Times, spending time with his grandchildren and he also enjoyed telling good jokes.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons; William L. Nunes and his wife Lori of Fairhaven, Frederick J. Nunes and his wife Chrissy of Acushnet, two daughters; Margaret J. Avila of New Bedford, Laureen Caton and her husband Mark of New Bedford, six grandchildren; Sherry Boucher, Shelly Brassard, Kristie Simmons, Ryan Caton, Sean and Corey Nunes, three great-grandchildren; Kaden Brooke, and Braley, and several nieces and nephews. He was brother of the late Vera Queen, Adeline Turner and Gilbert, Clarence, William and Frank Nunes.
His Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, August 9, 2013 at 9 AM in St. Mary’s Church, Main St., Fairhaven. Family will receive guests from 8:30AM-9AM prior to the mass. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701. Burial in Acushnet Cemetery. Arrangements are in the care of the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford.
