Gilberto Mendes

Born in Lisbon, Portugal, he was the son of the late Jose and Marie (De Conceicao Tome) Mendes.

Mr. Mendes was a Braider Operator at Engineered Yarns in Fall River for over 15 years. He enjoyed going to Café Mimo every day for his coffee and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Besides his wife he is survived by two sons, Gilly Mendes and his wife Linda of Wareham and Anthony Mendes of New Bedford; one daughter, Debra Ann Mendes and her fiancée Christopher Orlowski of New Bedford; two grandchildren, Cassidy and Cody Nunes of New Bedford; two brothers, Eduardo and Serafim Mendes, both of Portugal; one sister, Maria Herqueta Brito of New Bedford; several nieces, nephews and godchildren. He was also the brother of the late Antonio Mendes.

His funeral will be held Tuesday, May 8, 2012 at 9 AM from the ROCK Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 10 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford. Visiting hours, Monday 5-8 PM.
