Helena Roberts

Helena (Jardin) Roberts, age 84 of Acushnet, passed away Wednesday, August 29, 2018 in her residence surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of Roland Roberts to whom she had been married for 37 years.

Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Antone and Joaqoina (Pastana) Jardin, she spent most her life in Acushnet.

Mrs. Roberts was employed as a Stitcher in various mills in the New Bedford area and later was employed as a Housekeeper at The Oaks Nursing home in New Bedford.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three children, Steven Szlegier of New Bedford, Mary Szlegier of New Bedford and Sharon Szlegier of New Bedford; five grandchildren, Jennifer Rockwood, Kristen Donovan, Joshua Szlegier, Raven Garcia and Nicholas Szlegier; two sisters Patricia Bencs of Buffalo, NY and Dolores Chase of New Bedford; many great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Helena was the sister of the late Mary Jardin, Angelina Dias, Tony Jardin, Grace Vipon, Laura Almeida, Hilda Amancio, Winnie Elias, Charles Jardin and Connie Nunes.

Her Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, September 11, 2018 at 2:30PM in St. Joseph-St. Therese Church, Acushnet Ave., New Bedford. Burial will be private.
