

Irene D. Copley, a lifelong resident of New Bedford, passed away on February 20, 2026, at the age of 98. She was born on August 4, 1927, in New Bedford to her late parents, Joseph and Dora (St. Onge) Simoes.
Irene dedicated her life to being a homemaker, a role she fulfilled with love and dedication. Her family was of utmost importance to her, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Antone Francis and Donald Copley. Irene is survived by her children: Bruce A. Francis and his wife Lucy, Corinne Turner and her husband Marc, and Darlean Spangenberger, whose husband Paul predeceased her. Irene also leaves behind her sister, Dolores Souza, and her brother, Robert Simoes. She was predeceased by her siblings, Eleanor Jackson and Richard Simoes.
Irene will be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Alyssa Francis, Joshua Turner, and Sarah Frase, as well as her great-grandchildren, Gavin Turner, Carley Turner, Caleb Frase, Haley Frase, and Luke Frase. She also leaves behind several nieces and nephews.
Her personal interests included interior decorating, trips to Foxwoods, dancing, and reading. Irene especially treasured her time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to Irene's therapists and caregivers for their care and compassion.
Private services will be held in her honor.
