

Born in Ponta Delgada, St. Michael, Azores, Portugal, a son of the late João and Maria R. (Medeiros) Resendes, where he grew up. He moved to the United States in 1961.
Mr. Resendes was a carpenter for Union Local #151 for AFLCIO and worked for CECO Corporation in Hartford, CT. He was a member of the Whaling City Club, the St. Michael Club, the Clube Record Acores and the Central Luzo Club. John was an avid Benfica fan and he enjoyed going to Dunkin’ Donuts and Honey Dew Donut Shop. Mr. Resendes also enjoyed going to Pine Grove Cemetery daily to feed birds and squirrels.
He is survived by four daughters, Patricia A. DiBenedetto and her husband Peter of E. Freetown, Jennifer Resendes of Fall River, Lorie Resendes of Dartmouth, and Andrea Lavigne and her husband Chris of Wakefield, RI; the mother of his children and former wife, Ana M. (Vieira) Resendes of Dartmouth; five brothers, Walter Rezendes of New Bedford, Antero Resendes of E. Freetown, Joaquim Resendes of Rochester, Octavio Resendes of CA and Mario Resendes of New Bedford; a sister, Lillian Gonsalves of Fall River; eight grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
His visitation will be Friday, September 4, 2015 from 8:30-10:30 am in the ROCK FUNERAL HOME, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 am in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 1359 Acushnet Ave., New Bedford.
