Jose M. Garcia

Born in Achadinha, Sao Miguel, Azores, Portugal, the son of the late Virgino and Eva Conceicao (Souza) Garcia, he was a longtime resident of Dartmouth. He attended school in Portugal, he was a presser and tailor for 30 years, and prior to his retirement in 1987 he was employed at Silverstein’s.

Jose most enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, he loved animals, enjoyed the outdoors, he was an avid Red Sox Fan and was a member of the Whaling City Club.

Surviving in addition to his loving wife is a son, Joseph Garcia of Lexington, Kentucky; a sister, Dora Vieira of Canada; one grandchild; and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Miguel Garcia and brother of the late Joao Garcia, Maria da Luz Carreiro, Clotilde Medeiros, Maria Acencao DaCosta, Deolinda Marques, Idalina DaCosta and Maria do Anjos Correia.

His funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2017 at 8:30am from the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, followed by his funeral mass at 9:30am in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Visitation will be held, Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00PM. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. Relatives and friends invited.
