Joseph T. ONeill

Born in Youngstown, Ohio he was the son of the late Charles F. and Wilma J. (Cearfoss) ONeill.

Joseph was a graduate of St. Mary College High School in KY, St. Mary College in MN where he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree, and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth where he earned his Master’s Degree. Mr. ONeill worked as a teacher in the New Bedford Public Schools for 33 years until his retirement. He was currently a Florida resident.

He was a “Great Buckeye Fan” former member of the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra, St. Vincent de Paul Society, New Bedford Republican City Committee, New Bedford Port Society, Friendly Sons of St. Patrick and several model railroad clubs. He was proud to be an assistant in writing of the history of New Bedford that was used by the public school system.

Survivors include a nephew: Michael J. ONeil and his wife Donna, of FL, a sister-in law: Margaret Ann ONeil, of Struthers, OH and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 brothers: Charles W. ONeil and John R. ONeill and, a sister: Wilma Jane (ONeill) Zimmerman.

His Funeral Mass will be held on Monday, May 8, 2017 at 9:30AM at St. Mary’s Church, 343 Tarkiln Hill Road, New Bedford. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery. For tributes and online registration www.rock-funeralhome.com.
