Born in New Bedford, he was employed as a carpenter in the local area.
Joshua enjoyed spending time with his daughter Jayla, his interests included fishing, reading, and sports as a child.
Survivors include his daughter, Jayla-May Sylvia; his mother, Laurel A. (Brum)Poineau and her husband Robert; his father, Scott D. Sylvia of Dartmouth; maternal grandmother, Marjorie Greenwood;aunts Lynne(Brum) Muftu ,and Lisa (Brum) Wheelden. Paternal grandfather, Everett Sylvia; uncles, Bruce Sylvia, Mark Sylvia and his wife Joanne; and many nieces and nephews. He was the grandson of the late Shirley Sylvia.
