Manuel P. Alfaiate

Manuel “Manny” P. Alfaiate, age 78, of New Bedford, passed away Thursday, October 31, 2013 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Lucia G. (Amaral) Alfaiate with whom he shared 44 years of marriage.

Born in Salga, St. Michael, Azores, the son of the late Jose and Maria P. (Bulhoes) Alfaiate, he immigrated to the United States in 1966 and has resided in New Bedford for 47 years.

Manny worked as a presser at Cliftex Clothing Company. He was a veteran of the Portuguese Army. He was a member of the St. Michael Club and enjoyed watching Portuguese soccer, buying scratch tickets, but most of all loved spending time with his grandchildren and family.

Survivors in addition to his wife, are his children, Liz Pereira and her husband Peter of New Bedford; Lisa Amaral and her husband David of New Bedford; Derek Alfaiate and his wife Renee of South Dartmouth; 6 grandchildren, Seti, Tari, Taylor, Maya, Blake and Drew, 3 brothers, Jose Soares and his wife Jo-Anne of New Bedford; Artur Soares and his wife Eduarda of Dartmouth; Frank Alfaiate and his wife Betty of Fairhaven; and a sister, Maria Martin of New Bedford, a sister in law Mary Soares and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late George Soares.

His funeral will be held Wednesday, November 6, 2013 at 8am at the Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd, New Bedford followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9 am at Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday from 5-8pm. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery.
