Manuel P. Goncalves, 70, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully at Saint Luke’s Hospital, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and devotion. Born on May 20, 1955, in Travosos, Portugal, Manuel made a life in the United States, where he worked tirelessly and lovingly built a home filled with warmth and humor with his beloved wife, Profetina Goncalves.
He was the devoted son of Benta Fernandes Pereira and the late Manuel Parafita Goncalves.
A proud veteran of the Portuguese military, Manuel was a hard-working landscaper for many years and a true jack of all trades. He had a deep love for the outdoors - gardening, tending to his chickens and rabbits, and enjoying the simple pleasures of nature brought him great joy. A passionate supporter of the Benfica soccer team, Manuel was also known for his quick wit and great sense of humor. His ability to bring laughter into any room was one of his most treasured gifts.
Above all, Manuel was a family man. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his loved ones, especially his grandchildren, who were the light of his life. A devout Catholic, he was a faithful member of Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Church in New Bedford, where his strong faith was a guiding force in his life.
He is survived by his loving children, his two daughters, Anabela Goncalves of New Bedford, Lisa Rodrigues and her husband George of New Bedford, his son Alexandre Goncalves and his wife Brandy of Dartmouth; five grand-children, Kali Rodrigues, Kaleb Rodrigues, Kylee-Rae Moon, Audrey Goncalves, and Noah Goncalves; his siblings Jose da Silva, Maria Ines Pereira, Joao Goncalves, and Antonio da Silva; various aunts and uncles here and passed, and many nieces, nephews, sister and brother in laws here and in Portugal. He was the brother of the late Ana Maria Pereira and Francisco da Silva.
