Manuel H. Sousa

Manuel H. Sousa, 78, of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 28, 2025, at The Oaks. He was the beloved husband of the late Eduarda (Oliveira) Sousa, with whom he shared 46 cherished years of marriage. Eduarda was the love of his life.

Born in Ponta Delgada, São Miguel, Azores, Manuel was the son of the late Jacinto deSousa and Filomena daGloria deMedeiros (Ruimondo) Palheiro. He was a proud and hardworking man who dedicated many years to Architectural Paving and Stone and was a member of Local 385 until his retirement.

Manuel lived a life centered around family. He found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren and cheering on his favorite soccer team. A man of strong faith, he was a devoted communicant of his church and carried himself with humility, pride, and simplicity.

He is survived by his loving children, Dennis B. Sousa and his wife Tammy, and Keith M. Sousa and his wife Jennifer, all of New Bedford. He was the cherished grandfather of Amy Julia Sousa, Owen Zachary Sousa, and Camden Jacob Sousa, also of New Bedford. He also leaves behind several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Manuel was predeceased by his daughter Michelle Sousa and his sister Maria E. Farpea.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Paula, his longtime caregiver, as well as to the staff at The Oaks Nursing Home for the compassionate and loving care they provided.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, August 3, 2025, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Rock Funeral Home, 1285 Ashley Blvd., New Bedford, MA. His funeral will be held on Monday, August 4, 2025, at 9:00 AM at Rock Funeral Home, followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish, 343 Tarkiln Hill Rd., New Bedford. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
