Maria E. Leonor

Born in Ratoeira, Portugal, a daughter of the late Jose and Margarita (Ferreira) da Cruz. She, Alfredo and their family immigrated to the United States in 1980.

A talented and skilled seamstress, she worked for Calvin Clothing for 15 years before retiring in 1995. Her greatest joy was caring for and feeding her family. Surrounded by her family was her favorite place to be. She enjoyed doing puzzles and making knitted and crocheted items always with the intention of gifting them out to her friends and family. Her faith was of great importance to her and she was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three sons, Jose Leonor, Antonio Leonor and his significant other, Leanne McGrath, and John Leonor and his significant other, Andrea Duffy; four sisters, Lurdes dos Santos, Eduarda Paixao, Barbara de Jesus Carvalho and Rosaria da Cruz; six grandchildren, Victoria Lavery and her husband, William Lavery, Tatiana Leonor, Kayla Leonor, Cody Leonor, Hope Leonor and Riley Leonor; two great grandchildren, Simao Perreira and Lincoln Lavery; and many nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, November 1, 2022 at 11:00 AM in Our Lady of Immaculate Conception, 136 Earle Street, New Bedford followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, New Bedford.
